School Activities

Book Fair:  Our book fair takes place in the school in mid November each year. Children have the option to purchase a range of books.

Green  Schools:  We are working towards our Waste/litter Green flag. We expect to be awarded this flag in May 2018

Active Flag:   We have been awarded the Active School Flag.  Throughtout the school year we arrange various tournaments between all the pupils - soccer, gaelic football etc. and run the competitions off at lunch time.

Credit Union Table Quiz:  Every year we enter a number of teams in the local credit union quiz.  Our school has had great success in the local and chapter level credit union quiz.  We were delighted to represent this Credit Union Chapter at the National Credit Union Quiz Finals on a number of occasions.

Credit Union Art Competition:  Every year all the children in the school enter this competition and we have had great success at local level.

Computer training for senior classes:  In conjunction with St. Mogue's College Bawnboy, our senior classes are lucky enough to avail of the wonderful IT facilities in St Mogue's College once a week for a six week period in the final term.  It is a great learning experience for all involved and the programme will hopefully continue well in to the future

Football Coaching:   The G.A.A. Coach attends the school on Thursdays (or Fridays) for the middle and senior classes.

School Tour:  Each year we arrange a fun activity based school tour usually incorporating water and land based adventure activities.  The children thoroughly enjoy these outings.

Swimming:  We also arrange a six-week period of swimming lessons for pupils in 2nd through to 6th class in the Cavan Sports & Leisure Complex.

G.A.A.:  We participate in the Cumann na mBunscol competitions for primary schools e.g. Mini sevens football league etc.  Our local club, Templeport St. Aidan's, also send in a coach every Wednesday for the junior classes.

I.N.T.O. Handwriting:  Our pupils also enter the INTO handwriting competitions every year and on two occasions recently have had success at county level.

Trips / Visitors:  We arrange various trips for the pupils as they arise e.g. Aladdin in Derrylin Community Centre and we also have many entertaining guests during the year to the school e.g. "Joker" and Circus visits

Christmas activites:  We alternate between a Christmas variety show in Templeport community centre; a trip to a big-production pantomine in Dublin; and a carol service in Kilnavart church. Our next variety show is December 2016.

Spanish Classes:  4th, 5th and 6th class have Spanish classess which are facilitated by St. Mogue's College, Bawnboy
